AN INSIGHT INTO INTERNATIONAL TOURIST ARRIVALS
According to the UNWTO, 2016 was the seventh consecutive year of robust growth since the 2009 financial crisis. International tourist arrivals reached 1,235 million in 2016 representing a growth of 3.9% year-on-year. By region, Asia Pacific tops the list with an impressive +8.4% year on year whilst the Middle East registered a negative growth of -4.1%. After two troubled years, the rebound of 8.1% year-on-year in Africa was also commendable, though results are based on preliminary data.
